Enrollment During COVID 2: The Worst Squeal Ever
Confession: I actually totally loved this movie growing up!
Covid is having a much bigger impact on this school year than any of us had hoped.
While communities around the country are reacting differently to the ongoing challenge, it’s still frustrating news for our students, families, teachers, and school leaders. It will also continue to make student recruitment a challenge.
We do have a lot of experience to draw on from the past two years for how to connect with prospective families safely. There are a few key things to remember as we get ready to live through the worst sequel ever.
Engage Your Current Families
Your current families are your top referral source and should be at the center of your student recruitment strategy regardless of covid. Reach out to them early and often, asking them to help spread the word with their friends and family members. If you need extra help, current families can also be effective recruiters so long as you are clear about roles and expectations.
Facebook Won’t Fill Your School
Social media and search ads are powerful tools, but you’ll need a comprehensive plan to hit full enrollment. Digital ads work best when they are integrated into a larger recruitment strategy. When you do use digital ads, avoid the “spray and pray” approach. Make sure your audiences are targeted and your ads are built to create a strong awareness of engagement to lead generation funnel.
The Event Is Still the Thing
School tours or info sessions are still the most effective way to convert interest into enrollment. Most families want to get a sense of the environment and meet the leaders before making a commitment. Your school’s standard covid protocols are enough for most families to feel safe visiting, and streaming events on Instagram Live or Zoom is a great way to maximize attendance.
